On a one-third acre plot southwest of Kuna, Geoff Glenn is raising a wide selection
of fresh vegetables and melons for the Kuna Farmers Market. He has an assortment
of peppers from mild to very hot along with tomatillos for salsa. Green onions,
carrots, eggplants and red potatoes are also in the garden plot. He has Armenian
or yard-long cucumbers and regular slicing varieties. Geoff raises several kinds
of squashes and specially grooms zucchinis fit for his favorite recipe—Sausage
Stuffed Zucchini.
Geoff has sweet corn that he and his son, Lucas, pick early Saturday morning before
the market, and it is guaranteed to be fresh. The Ambrosia variety that he raises
is a large ear with yellow and white kernels. It is delicious for corn on the cob
as well as for canning and freezing.
Large, juicy watermelons are ready in the regular or seedless varieties, and Geoff
will soon have cantaloupe and honeydew.
Geoff also runs his business, The Hobby Farmer, that specializes in small acreage
tractor work. Ground preparation, planting, and corrugating as well as arena work
are some of the services he provides. He is also experimenting with composting with
the goal of having a supply of rich, natural mulch and fertilizer for local gardeners.
Geoff and his wife, Kelly, and their son, Lucas, are active in the Kuna community.
Prior to coming to the Kuna area over 15 years ago, they lived at Parma where they
farmed and ranched on 900 acres.
The Kuna Farmers Market opens at 9 am and runs until 12 noon at the SandStone Plaza
at the west end of Main Street in Kuna. If you would like more information, contact
