Celebrate fall with Cabalo’s. Both at the Market and at the farm, they have an array of produce, pumpkins, and fall decoratives available. The Pumpkin Patch is open through Halloween.

Fall produce is at its best. The weather is turning cool. Frost has not hit even though temperatures are dipping near the freezing point at night. This means that tomatoes and peppers are still available. Cabalo’s have Roma tomatoes for sauce and big, juicy varieties for slicing and canning. The Abraham Lincoln, a popular heritage tomato in the 1930’s, is especially good. The award-winning Brandywine is also available.

Hot peppers, from Anaheims to Habeñeros and Jalapeños, are available. Choices in sweet bell peppers range from green, red, orange, or yellow.

The squashes and pumpkins are colorful and delicious. The cool nights bring out the sweetness. Cabalo’s have small acorns, the meaty Butternuts, and the big heritage varieties of Hubbards and Sweet Meats. These squashes store well into the winter, so now is the time to stock up.

The Turban Squash is dual purpose. Its intriguing shape and bright colors make it a wonderful display piece. The hard shell and tasty flesh allow for many creative stuffed-squash ideas.

Want to make pie? Try the small Sugar Pie Pumpkins.

Cabalo’s has a wide selection of decoratives for yards and front doors including pumpkins, broom corn, sorghum, Indian corn, both mini gourds and large gourds, as well as corn stalks.

Cabalo’s farm stand and u-pick garden is open during the week and on weekends. The Pumpkin Patch is open through Halloween. Visit the farm and take a hayride to the Pumpkin Patch to select the perfect Halloween pumpkin. The location is near the corner of Ten Mile and King Roads. Watch for signs or call 922-3301 for directions and times or to arrange for special appointments.

Chan and Cathy Cabalo own and operate Cabalo’s Orchard and Gardens along with their son, Thomas, and daughter, Marie. Thomas recently completed Air Force Boot Camp and is a member of the Idaho Air National Guard. Marie is a senior at Kuna High School and is active in band and track.
