Now is the time to get started in the Great Pumpkin Contest sponsored by Cabalo’s
Orchard and Vogel Farms. Contestants must purchase their plants from Cabalo’s or
Vogel’s at the Market. These are no ordinary plants. These are Dill’s Atlantic Giant,
Guerney’s Magic Giant, and Full Moon Giant White pumpkins.
Chan Cabalo will share his secrets for growing the biggest pumpkins. Throughout
the season, he will offer additional coaching on care of the pumpkin plant to encourage
rapid growth. The winning pumpkin will be awarded a prize in October.
The Idaho record is 1,040 pounds, set in 2007 by a surgeon in eastern Idaho. Let’s
see what Kuna can grow!
Kelly Caluzzo is the winner of the Stimulus Day shopping bag. The Market shopping
bag contained coupons for lamb chops, breakfast sandwiches, whole grain bread, Knuttty
Knots, fruit pie, eggs, plants, coffee from The Trellis Bistro, a gift card from
Confetti’s, and a coupon from Wild Ivy.
Stop by the Market for fresh-picked asparagus and rhubarb. A wide selection of bedding
plants is available—tomatoes, herbs, hanging baskets, and perennial flowers. Also
try our locally grown lamb, pork, beef, eggs, and home-baked breads.
The Market hours are 9 am to noon. The Market location is at Sandstone Plaza at
the west end of Main Street. For more information, contact Cheryl McCord at 922-5113
or visit the website at
