Composting is a natural process that we can all participate in—through observing
nature do its work or through active nurturing of our own compost.
The Junior Master Gardeners will present Compost Critters. Kids can dig in a batch
of compost and find the living creatures that contribute to the breakdown of organic
materials.
My husband, Bill Clark, and I are avid vermiculturists. The worms in our worm bin
have eaten hundreds of gallons of kitchen scraps over the last six years. They have
produced two trays of rich, black, worm castings and many gallons of worm tea. It
is time to remove the third tray of castings and move the worms into fresh bedding.
At 10:30 am Bill will demonstrate the changing of the worms and the basics of worm
care.
The garden next to the Market at Wild Ivy will be filled with crafters for the Craft
Faire. The Kuna Farmers Market crafters will also be showing their artwork. Eric
Keyes creates patio and garden sinks and potting benches from barn woods. Jerry
Guest engraves mirrors and makes bird houses. Theresa Smith has fine wool fleeces
and handspun yarns. Valetta Murphey of The Tole Shed has intricately engraved and
painted gourds. There are also makers of beaded jewelry and stepping stones. Choose
classic garden designs or let the kids make their own at the Market.
The Wild Ivy Craft Faire is also featuring Texas Longhorns that will be corralled
next to the Market. Come and see these magnificent animals up close.
The Market hours are 9 am to noon. The Market location is at Sandstone Plaza at
the west end of Main Street. For more information, contact Cheryl McCord at 922-5113
