A new face coming to the Market is Yungu Kim from Korea. He is an exchange student at Kuna High School and is hosted by Chan and Cathy Cabalo of Cabalo’s Orchard and Garden.

Yungu arrived last Saturday evening from Namwon, a small city in southwest South Korea. He phoned his mother and father, Sookja and Incheol, and his younger brother, Mingu, to let them know he arrived safely. They are excited for him to be able to live in the United States and wish him a pleasant stay with his new American family.

Yungu’s luggage was filled with wonderful gifts. The Cabalos were surprised with the beautiful Korean dolls and figurines Yangu brought for them. He also brought ceremonial wooden shoes, and small silk drawstring bags.

One of Yungu’s interests is food and cooking. For the Cabalos, he brought snack foods made with different seeds, ginseng candy, and Korean noodles. His first request was to cook a delicious Korean meal for his host family, and his second was to learn more about American foods. He definitely found the right host family as Cathy is a superb cook who creates many savory dishes from the fresh vegetables and fruits grown on their farm.

As an introduction to his new home, the Cabalo family gave Yungu a tour of the orchard. He got to bite into a fresh-picked apple and taste blackberries in the berry patch.

Stop by the Market and welcome Yangu to Kuna. He will be helping at the Cabalo’s booth and learning American life and culture Kuna-style.

This Saturday is Bring Your Tractor to the Market Day. All farmers who bring their tractors to the Market will be offered a free lunch and photo of their tractor.

September 6 is Tomato Tasting. This is an opportunity for all gardeners to enter their favorite tomato from their garden in the tasting contest. Prizes will be given to best tasting tomatoes as voted by everyone attending the Market that day. There will be categories for different varieties—slicers and sauce, cherry, grape, and low-acid tomatoes. Stop by the Market Info booth for an entry form.

The Market hours are 9 am to noon. The Market location is at Sandstone Plaza at the west end of Main Street. For more information, contact Cheryl McCord at 922-5113 or visit the website at www.KunaFarmersMarket.com.
