Now is the time to get started in the Great Pumpkin Contest sponsored by Cabalo’s
Orchard and Vogel Farms. Contestants must purchase their plants from Cabalo’s or
Vogel’s at the Market. These are no ordinary plants. These are Prizewinner pumpkins
that can grow up to 300 pounds. They aren’t the biggest pumpkins, but they are dependable
plants.
Chan Cabalo will share his secrets for growing the biggest pumpkins. Throughout
the season, he will offer additional coaching on care of the pumpkin plant to encourage
rapid growth. The winning pumpkin will be awarded a cash prize October 24.
The Idaho record is 1,040 pounds, set in 2007 by a surgeon in eastern Idaho. Let’s
see what Kuna can grow!
Stop by the Market for fresh-picked asparagus and rhubarb. A wide selection of bedding
plants is available—tomatoes, herbs, hanging baskets, and perennial flowers. Also
try our locally grown lamb, pork, beef, eggs, and home-baked breads.
The hands-on craft activity at the Confetti’s booth will be cupcake decorating.
